Award of the Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Prize (2nd Edition)
The Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award, established by the Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida, in partnership with the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, celebrating the memory of Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida, is intended to reveal new talents and scientific work in various research areas within the Humanities, as defined in each edition, being held every two years.
In the award's second edition, twenty-two papers were received. Erotica de Aquiles: reconfigurations of kairos in Greek vases (VI-V centuries BC), by Ana Rita Barros Figueira and Composite works of art: philosophy of art after Plato and Aristotle, by Tomás Maria Tavares Diniz Neves e Castro were the winning entries chosen by the Jury ex aequo. The Awards were presented by the members of the Awarding Panel - Vasco Vieira de Almeida, António Feijó, Miguel Tamen and José Pedro Serra - to the winners on 7 February, in the context of the event marking the 5-year anniversary of the Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida.
This biennial award is open to applications from FLUL undergraduates, masters, PhD holders, as well as post-doctoral researchers, up to five years after compleiton of their degree or the end of their post-doctoral researcher status. It is aimed at unveiling new talents and scientific work in various fields of research in the Humanities, with this edition being dedicated to the field of Philosophy. The Award is worth 20,000 euros, to which a maximum of 5,000 euros will be added as a contribution towards the publication costs of the award-winning entry. The call for entries for the 3rd Edition of the Award will be announced shortly.
