Cultivating new paths: Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation supports project in correctional facilities
The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation has partnered with Upfarming, an organisation specialising in the development of holistic urban agriculture projects, to implement the “Semear Esperança” (Sowing Hope) project at Estabelecimento Prisional de Leiria para Jovens (Leiria Youth Detention Centre).
As part of this partnership, the Foundation, together with VdA’s Investigations & White Collar Practice, promoted the Legal Workshop “Direito ao Futuro” (Right to a Future), under the motto: “Ser sempre, Preparar, Recomeçar” (Always be, Prepare, Start again). Led by lawyers Joana Bernardo, Andreia Oliveira Ferreira, Inês Morgado Madaíl and Marta Maia, the workshop aimed to promote legal literacy, clarify doubts about rights and duties, and prepare participants for the future.
The “Semear Esperança” project, created by Upfarming, aims to empower young people aged 16–25 who are deprived of their liberty by helping them acquire personal and practical skills to enhance their journey, encouraging them to make more sustainable life choices and reducing the risk of reoffending. This will open doors to new opportunities.
The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation thus reinforces its commitment to inclusion, autonomy, and constructing more positive and promising paths to reintegration.
