Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida supports Casa de Santo António

08 January, 2021

Every year we receive baskets of biological products grown in VdA’s own Vegetable Garden as part of the partnership between Associação BIPP – Semear and Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida.

In 2019, Fundação VVA delivered the products received to the Homeless Support Center and this year the products will be gifted to several Social Organizations.

In the first stage, between 8 and 15 December, we delivered the biological products to Casa de Santo António, a 90 year-old organization whose mission is to shelter and support teenage mothers and their babies and help these new families build a new life for themselves during their time living in the Institution.

Casa de Santo António offers three different services: Casa das Mães (Mothers’ Shelter) (a Home for children and teenagers) that can shelter up to 17 moms and their infants; Casa das Crianças (Children’s Shelter) (Kindergarten) that can shelter 50 children, and Casa dos Sabores (House of Flavors) (provides commercial catering and restaurant services) that ensures the sustainability of the other two social initiatives.

In the words of the Casa de Santo António’s director, Mafalda Simões Coelho: “Although 2020 proved a challenging year for this Institution due to the many hurdles we had to overcome caused by the pandemic, we were able to continue working with our mothers and children, and that would not have been possible without the support of Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida, among others. The food you donated provided many meals to the mothers and children in this Shelter and we cannot thank you enough for it.”
