Zambujal 360: The first social housing neighbourhood to act as an ambassador for the 17 SDGs
The Zambujal 360 project, promoted by the Ad Gentes and CAZAmbujal associations, launched its Urban Art Gallery on 22 October, transforming the Zambujal neighbourhood in Amadora into a true symbol of inclusion and sustainability. Months of hard work and dedication resulted in an unforgettable day for everyone involved in the community.
The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation is one of the 17 partners in this transformative project, sponsoring the mural dedicated to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, created by artists Draw and Alma, from the Ruído Project.
In addition to artistic support, the Foundation is investing in training and capacity building for local guides who will lead visitors through the gallery and explain the stories and meanings behind each wall.
The inauguration was a community celebration attended by Representatives of the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe, bringing together partners, artists, and residents in a vibrant display of colour, music, dance, and community spirit. As guests strolled through the neighbourhood, they discovered 17 murals—one for each Sustainable Development Goal—all of which were created with the active participation of residents and painted by renowned urban artists.
"More than art, each street tells a story, each face carries an example, and each culture adds to the richness, giving theZambujal neighbourhood its own identity" said Vítor Monteiro, President of the CAZAmbujal Association.
