Ongoing Projects

Green Cork – Cork Stoppers Recycling Project

Environmental Sustainability

VdA and the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation participate in the Green Cork Project, an initiative led by Quercus, the Portuguese Association for Nature Conservation, which aims to link recycling and nature conservation efforts while also promoting the circular economy.

Quercus receives an amount for each cork stopper delivered for recycling, which is then applied towards the reforestation of native species of the Portuguese flora through the Common Forest (Floresta Comum) project.

The need to protect nature and to act in a responsible way that preserves the fragile ecological balance has become an increasingly pressing concern. As such, VdA’s Green Project (Projeto Verde) also includes cork stoppers in its recycling metrics, thus reinforcing the central role of sustainability in VdA and the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation’s activities.

The Firm has already sent off more than 20,000 cork stoppers, collected at its Lisbon and Oporto offices, for recycling.
