A workshop on the Assisted Adult Regime [Estatuto do Maior Acompanhado] was organised by Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida and EAPN Portugal in partnership with Cidade das Profissões Cascais

Within the project InclusivaMente: Direitos Humanos no Envelhecimento e na Saúde Mental [Human Rights in Aging and Mental Health], promoted by the Fundação Vasco  Vieira de Almeida in partnership with EAPN Portugal, the Workshop "Assisted Adult Regime:  The Role of Family Members of People with Diminished Capacity", organised in collaboration with Cidade das Profissões Cascais, took place on 27 April.

In this workshop, attended by 20 participants, we started by asking people about their concerns and doubts. From there, the workshop theme was framed, specific situations were discussed, and the trainers shared very practical content on preserving the autonomy of family members with disabilities or mental illness, safeguarding their rights and duties with the use of the Assisted Adult Regime.

At the end of the session, the Cidade das Profissões Cascais team stressed that "the workshop was a strong contribution to the development of a more active citizenship through useful and enlightened information, in a participative and face-to-face training forum" and the trainers left their testimony:

Inclusivamente gains a new sharpness and urgency when it allows us to establish a direct relationship with potential assisted adults and their families. This is truly an exercise in empowerment and an active citizenship school. A particularly exciting session for a legal professional who believes in the democratisation of knowledge.

Paula Guimarães, Law Degree holder and Trainer in the Project InclusivaMente

With Inclusivamente we want to get closer to the People who need it most, helping them to know and promote their Rights. Seeing the interest of their families in achieving this goal is very rewarding and strengthens our conviction about the work we have been developing.
