Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida teams up with Student Keep in computer equipment raising

24 April, 2020

Within the scope of its intervention in the axis of Education for Citizenship, Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida teams up with Student Keep, a project aiming to promoting equal opportunities in access to education during the period of social isolation imposed by the pandemic of the new COVID-19, which aims to ensure school stay and educational follow up of children and young students from needy contexts and greater socioeconomic vulnerability

In a world facing unprecedent challenges, it is mandatory and urgent to ensure that teaching continues to be possible using digital means. Unfortunately, during these days not all students from primary, technical or high schools or colleges have access to internet or to a computer allowing them to keep up with the activities proposed by teachers, a situation that strengthens the inequality in the access to education in Portugal.

Student Keep is a project included in the larger movement #tech4COVID19 having as purpose computer equipment raising for its later delivery to schools with needy students. The delivery of the donated equipment is assured by the Minister of Education in partnership and close co-operation with the School Groupings which are also responsible to identify the needy students.

The success of this initiative depends on the contribution of a solidary network of Portuguese people who wants to be associated with the project as Keepers: by donating new or used computer equipment, in good shape and working state, which may be used by students attending primary, technical or high schools or colleges (computers, tablets, monitors, mouse, keyboards, printers, hotspots). In order to be a contributor and become a Keeper, it is sufficient to sign up in Student Keep website, using this link if you are an individual Keeper, or using this link if you are a Corporate Keeper (companies).

The spreading out of the project is also a form of contributing to its success. The wider the Keppers’ network is, the larger will be the number of students with access to school!
