InclusivaMente Project: an afternoon at Semear!

11 October, 2023

Since 2019, the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation, in partnership with the European Anti-Poverty Network - EAPN Portugal, has been implementing the InclusivaMente Project: Human Rights in Ageing and Mental Health.

The project consists of a training programme, certified training and coaching for professionals, families, and beneficiaries on the framework of the Adult Accompaniment Regime. The training sessions are led by Paula Guimarães (lawyer and social entrepreneur) and Maria do Rosário Zincke dos Reis (lawyer).

On 19 September, another training session for this Project took place, this time at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, aimed at family members of young people supported by the Associação BIPP - Inclusão para a Deficiência.

After framing the topic, specific cases were discussed and practical content was shared on preserving the autonomy of people with disabilities, incapacity, or mental illness, and the safeguard of their rights and duties using the Adult Accompaniment Regime.

In the words of Paula Guimarães, “meeting the families of people who are eligible to be included in the Adult Accompaniment Regime is particularly rewarding, as it allows us to get to know the difficulties of those who care for and accompany them. It adds the emotion and soul that the law needs.”
