Braço Direito Programme – A day at VdA!

22 January, 2020

The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation participated in the 4th Edition of the “Braço Direito – A day in your Future” Programme, organised by Junior Achievement Portugal (JAP).
During a week, VdA welcomed, at its Lisbon headquarters, 9 high school students who had the opportunity to experience the environment and reality of a law firm and to have first-hand contact with the day-to-day business lives of VdA’s professionals.
The programme started with an institutional presentation and visit to the office, followed by a moment of job shadowing and the sharing of experience between VdA volunteers and the “Braço Direito” students.
This Project aligns with the Foundation’s mission and vision of education as the key tool for development and citizenship, reinforcing its long-standing partnership with JAP.

“Being part of the volunteer team of VdA lawyers in the “Braço Direito – A day in your Future” programme was a fulfilling experience.
Highschool students are facing a lot of pressure in choosing not only what they will study in the university but also their future profession without having sufficient information. Thus, giving the opportunity to students to visit our offices and get a glimpse of how we work in real life is essential.
At the same time, the experience is important for all of us; explaining the main aspects of your work, the challenges and the necessary skillset that a lawyer should have nowadays puts your professional life into perspective.”

“The Braço Direito project is a real asset for those who participate in it. From the student's perspective, because it is an unique opportunity to contact with the professional reality and to clarify their doubts and concerns, as well as to understand the practical application of the subjects they study or intend to study. For the volunteers, because they have the chance to guide and make a student aware of his vocation, contributing to his personal growth, as well as the pleasure of feeling that, for one day, he was someone's right hand.”
