SEMEAR

Education for Citizenship

As part of the “Semear na Terra” initiative, the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation is putting its partnership with SEMEAR into practice by sponsoring an area of over 450 m² of its organic vegetable garden through the 'm²' project .

The project provides young people and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) with the chance to gain hands-on experience and hone their skills in agriculture and horticulture. They will do this by actively participating in the maintenance and cultivation of the land, all within an inclusive and sustainable model that covers the entire “farm to plate” journey.

Alongside direct project support, the Foundation promotes corporate volunteering initiatives, encouraging VdA employees to participate in planting, harvesting, and maintaining the vegetable garden.

SEMEAR is dedicated to the socio-professional integration of people with IDD, promoting their autonomy and active participation in society. Since 2014, it has developed skills development programmes, certified training, volunteering experiences, internships and employability support to nurture the talent and abilities of every young person and adult.

SEMEAR's innovative and sustainable model of social intervention takes a personalised approach to facilitate the transition to adult life and the world of work, promoting the development of personal, social and professional skills. The following programmes stand out:

  • The SEMEAR Academy, which focuses on training and integration into the labour market;
  • Agricultural entrepreneurship and food production projects, such as the “Semear na Terra” initiative; and
  • The creation and artisanal production of unique ceramic pieces.
