Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida and VdA support Serve the City Community Dinner

02 March, 2023

On 28 February, Fundação Vasco Vieira de Almeida and VdA joined, once again, the Community Dinner promoted by Serve the City Association.

The initiative took place at Escola Secundária Aurélia de Sousa [Aurélia de Sousa Secondary School], in Porto, and was supported by a group of VdA team members and families who came together to serve a meal to vulnerable people.

Serve the City promotes a number of initiatives, including the Community Dinners, in which volunteers from various companies are invited to prepare and serve dinner to homeless people in an atmosphere of sharing, inclusion and service.

"The experience was very positive: I benefited from the direct exchange between the time I dedicated and the affection and gratitude I received. It was inspiring to meet volunteers who give so much to those in need, so naturally and selflessly. It is, beyond any doubt, an experience to be repeated". Salomé Corte-Real

"Joining Serve the City's Community Dinner is a rewarding experience where we share stories, moments and help dignify the lives of these people who go through so many challenges in life. I wholeheartedly recommend that you all join in". Diogo Pessoa Freire

"It was the first time I took part in an initiative of this kind. I didn't know what to expect. At first I felt I was choosing my words for fear of touching on some more sensitive subject, but gradually I felt more confident and the chats were flowing. I had chats with people living in different circumstances: homeless, working, but sleeping on the streets, people with a house, but without the minimum conditions of comfort and without sufficient income for the most basic needs. Others, just living in the most brutal loneliness. It was like being smacked by reality". Dulce Fernandes
