Exhibition “Local de Trabalho”

2023

by Miguel Palma

Miguel Palma is an essential figure in Portuguese art during the transition to the 21st century. His work forms part of the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation Collection, creating a space with its own distinct character that adds depth to a collection which is open, dynamic and thought-provoking on a global scale. It is within this framework that the exhibition “Local de Trabalho” (Workplace) emerges, constructing a narrative around the challenges of the contemporary world and the concepts that permeate our existence, projecting them into a discourse of constant questioning.

“Local de Trabalho” invites reflection on the creative process: How does thought take shape, from concept to finished work? How does an artist’s studio function? How does the dynamic of production unfold? In the context of a law firm, where the Collection is housed, these questions resonate particularly strongly with those who interact daily with the works on display.

The exhibition brings together sculptures and drawings produced over the last few decades, as well as an impressive workbench. It offers visitors an insight into the artist’s creative universe, which can be understood as his “workplace”. Transposed into an environment with distinct architectural, social, and professional characteristics, the studio provides a starting point for observing, comparing, and reflecting on the similarities and differences between the processes of artistic creation and our own ways of working, thinking, and executing.

Coordination and production:
Maltilde Horta e Costa, Board Member of the Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation and Corporate Affairs Director at Vieira de Almeida

Curation and design of the exhibition space:
Verónica de Mello

The exhibition is included in ARCO's official programme for Collectors.
