The Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award

The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation, the University of Lisbon and the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon strongly believe that the dissemination of knowledge and science is an essential step in the construction of a more open, engaged and inclusive society. Inspired by this mission, the three entities have launched the Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award with the aim of fostering research and contributing to the development of knowledge and innovation in the field of humanities.

This Award celebrates the work and memory of Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida, by presenting and promoting new knowledge, talent and scientific works in several different humanities research areas. The award will be held on a biennial basis.

Eligibility

The Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida Award is open to applications from undergraduate, Master’s and PhD degree holders, as well as postdoctoral researchers, from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, within five years of the completion of their academic degree or the end of their postdoctoral researcher status.

Theme

Scientific and/or research papers focusing on any field within the humanities are eligible.

The prize

The amount of the prize is €20,000, to which a maximum sum of €6,000 will be added as a contribution towards the publishing expenses of the award-winning paper.

I specifically acknowledge that, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Award, should the research paper to be submitted (i) be in English or French and (ii) is selected to be given the Award, I hereby undertake to translate the work to Portuguese in a reasonable time frame to be established by ULisboa Press to publish it. The translation, as well as the associated costs, will be borne by me. In case I do not deliver the translation within the established deadline, I am required to return the full amount of the Award to Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation.

I declare, on my word of honour, that the work here attached is the product of research I have carried out and I understand that it will be deemed invalid or disqualified in the event that the ideas or work of others has been included without proper referencing and acknowledgement.

Processing of Personal Data

The Vasco Vieira de Almeida Foundation (“VVA Foundation”) is the entity responsible for the processing of personal data.

All information provided in this form will be kept confidential and exclusively used for the purposes of assessing applications for the Professor Francisco Vieira de Almeida award (“Award”), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the competition and based on the relationship established with you. All fields must be filled in. Please note that failure to provide the required data will prevent our consideration of your application for the Award.

Under the Rules and Regulations of the competition, the VVA Foundation will transfer the personal data of all applicants to the members of the Jury, who will process this data solely for the purposes of assessing the submitted papers. This personal data will be kept during the competition and subsequently deleted or anonymised, as appropriate, except if the VVA Foundation is obliged by law to store it for a longer period.

In accordance with the applicable legislation, the personal data holder is guaranteed the right to access, correct, erase or update his/her personal data, as well as to restrict or oppose its processing, upon written request addressed to the entity responsible for the processing of personal data and sent by e-mail to premio@fundacaovva.org. Without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial means of appeal, you have the right to file a complaint with the CNPD (Portuguese Data Protection Authority), or any other competent authority under law, if you have reason to believe that the VVA Foundation’s processing of your personal data violates the legal framework in force.
